South Florida Baby Sleep Help

My Journey

My Backstory, My Education & My Passion!

Why and how I became a certified baby and child sleep consultant.

My journey to find my passion for helping families!

Hello There!

Thanks for visiting my page! I’m so happy you’re here. My name is Laura Knecht, and I was born and raised in Broward County, South Florida. I am married to an amazing husband who excels at all tech-related things. We have a son Logan, named after his grandfather (and maybe my favorite comic book character).

Before settling down with my family, I studied Early Childhood Education to become a teacher, like my mother. However, after several years of working in the school system, I decided it wasn’t for me.

I left and worked at a local YMCA, creating and teaching in their Early Childhood Program. This experience included teaching Mommy and Me classes, Infant Swim class, and various after-school programs.

Fast Forward…

My husband and I settled down and started our little family, including human and fur babies. After I delivered my son via emergency C-section, I struggled to recover from surgery. At the same time, we discovered that my son had allergies that led to terrible breakouts and severe reflux issues.

The first year of my son’s life was very challenging and took a toll on our family. It was a dark year full of crying, screaming, and very little sleep. Nothing is worse than seeing your baby suffer and being unable to comfort him.

If you’re a parent of a reflux baby or a severely allergic child, you can relate. If you’re struggling with these issues, know you’re not alone! There is help available out there. Don’t settle for anything you’re uncomfortable with, and keep trying things until you find what works for you, your baby, and the rest of your family.

Infant and childcare professionals like me can help guide you toward the right person or product to help your situation.

Back To The Story…

Even when we resolved the root of my son’s medical issues, he still struggled with sleep. We knew that he was not in pain or uncomfortable, and we were desperate to try and help him (and us!) get more sleep.

When I say he was a terrible sleeper, I mean he was the worst, just awful! He would sleep for 1.5 to 2 hours at most overnight, and it would take us 30 to 45 minutes to get him to sleep.

Forget napping – my son only slept in the stroller but never in the car. He would scream bloody murder whenever we placed him in his car seat.

We tried almost every product marketed to help babies sleep – swings, rockers, sleep sacks, bouncers, and oil diffusers. Name it, and I guarantee we’ve tried it. Still, nothing worked! Every night, my husband or I would be stuck bouncing on a yoga ball for hours, trying to get him to fall asleep.

My husband and I took turns putting him to sleep, but my son would wake up four to eight times each night. Then we would play the delicate “How do we transfer him to the crib?” game. We failed at least half the time. We also tried co-sleeping, but that didn’t work either.

So, we began reading baby sleep books and trying different strategies. But each one seemed to make it worse! There was so much crying, my heart was breaking, my marriage was suffering, and my postpartum depression was not improving at all.

Eventually, we found an online program with a plan and, most importantly, real expert support. While it didn’t offer as much help as I would’ve liked, it made a real difference.

I couldn’t believe it when my son Logan slept through his first night! I thought it might be a fluke. Fortunately, it was the real deal. My baby was sleeping, and he was happy and playful for the first time since he was born! He was a completely new baby, a well-rested baby. It was the most beautiful thing that happened since becoming a mother.

I then knew I wanted to give other families real and expert support. I wanted to hold their hands and explain it would be okay and that together, we could help their baby sleep independently and peacefully.

My Education…

With my early childhood education background and my passion for teaching, becoming an infant and child sleep consultant was the natural path of my career progression. Especially now that I was a mom myself.

After doing extensive research, I found my path. While there are no degrees for Pediatric Sleep Specialists, sleep education and certification programs are available. I completed The Sleep Sense Certification and Training Program, then created Good Little SleeperZzz and began helping families nationwide.

At the same time, I continued my education with online classes specializing in Reflux/GERD, Newborn Development, Breastfeeding, Baby-Led Weaning, Tongue & Tip Ties, and more.

After starting my company, I was thrilled to be accepted into the International Association of Child Sleep Consultants and the Association of Professional Sleep Consultants. Through these associations, I continue my education on the most up-to-date research and global studies on infant and child sleep.
